We're delighted to be partnering with Virgin Wines Plc to support them in the search for their new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

This is a highly exciting opportunity for an innovative, creative and hands-on CTO to join one of the UK’s leading businesses as they embark on the next phase of growth.

Virgin Wines is one of the largest Direct to Consumer online specialist wine retailers in the UK, established in 2000 by the Virgin Group and was subsequently acquired by Direct Wines in 2005.

In November 2013, the Virgin Wines management team, successfully completed a buyout of the business.

Over the following years, they have expanded the brand’s product proposition to reflect their customers’ growing demands. Over recent years this has included the launch of a high-quality craft beer and spirit collection as well as corporate and consumer gift propositions such as their highly popular Wine Advent Calendar.

Today, Virgin Wines accounts for nearly 10% of the UK’s growing £780m online direct to customer wine market. Their active customer base totals more than 160,000, the majority of whom are subscribed to one of our two subscription schemes, WineBank and WinePlan.

In 2021 Virgin Wines floated on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) and are now looking for an experienced, driven, hands-on Chief Technologist to lead the delivery of the technology aspects of it’s ambitious 5 year post float plan.

About

Virgin Wines work with a network of more than 40 trusted winemakers across the globe to source, blend, curate and sell collections of award-winning and exclusive wines.

They sell these to their loyal customers through their WineBank and Wine Plan subscription models or on a pay as you go basis. Their product offer is enhanced through carefully curated collections of premium spirits and craft beers.

More than 90% of their wines by volume are created exclusively for Virgin Wines. Their in-house team collaborates with winemaker partners to blend individual wines either at source or at their headquarters in Norwich. This unique way of working enables them to create exclusive, premium wines for their customers at affordable prices.

They combine their production with a data-led approach, which sees their team analyse more than 100,000 wine reviews each year, to continually evolve and update their range of products to meet the exact tastes of their customers and in turn continually improve customer attraction, satisfaction and retention.

Brand DNA and Culture

Much of Virgin Wines ongoing success has been attributed to its people, culture and purpose.

With a passion for people and a clear brand identity and purpose the business continues to exceed goals and grow at above market rates.

There are no complicated management structures and certainly no suits or corporate outlook, just normal people who work hard and love the satisfaction of doing a great job.

Virgin Wines people always look to do better. They work hard to achieve the things that matter, they constantly raise their standards, they actively look for better ways to do things and they do all this with a smile on their face. If you take what you do seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously, then you might be a Virgin Wines person.
